YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

There are many different yoga traditions. Each tradition may vary in class and teaching style.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga classes are relaxing and very slow paced. In this yoga class poses are held for several minutes and deeply supported with props - blocks, bolsters, straps and blankets. This allows the body and mind to soften and come back to homeostasis. Students will be encouraged to focus on their breath in order to cultivate mindfulness and release tension from the body. The practice is designed to help with whole body relaxation and restoration.

Soft music will be played for ambiance. Bring your mat, socks and any props of your liking (blankets, pillows, towels etc). We have props available as well!

Fundamentals of Yoga

This class is designed for the moderately active beginning student. It also allows well-practiced students to hone their existing practice working into proper alignment, inspiring beginners and mastering poses. It is a fully guided class where new students can learn the foundations of asana practice, breath work and yoga philosophy. Everyone’s practice is different, so I encourage students to work at their own comfort level and intensity.

Healthy Backs

This class is for anyone wanting to keep their spine healthy, recover from injury or chronic pain, and prevent future pain. Students will learn yoga poses to relieve tired back muscles, chronic back tension, lengthen and release compression in the spine to keep the back healthy.

Gentle Yoga

Gentle Yoga is for students of all-levels. This class is low to moderate activity working on muscular strength and flexibility. Yoga asanas (postures) are held to build strength and slow transitions between poses to release tightness in the body. The class begins with basic breathing techniques for grounding, fuller concentration and relaxation.

Yoga + Meditation

This class will use a variety of sun salutations (Sanskrit: Surya Namaskar A & B) before easing into a 15-minute guided meditation. Sun Salutation are a traditional yogic warm-up sequence to help students synchronize breath with movement and energize the body. This class is for everybody, no matter where you are on your yoga journey (new, beginner, regular). Students will learn how to connect with themselves, gain mental clarity, and set clear intentions for the day, week, or month.

Slow Flow

This class is for the moderately practiced students and bold beginners. Students will learn the fundamentals of Vinyasa Yoga while working through a sequence of yoga postures. Linking poses to breath promotes focus, strength and cardiovascular endurance while moving at your own pace allows you to work at your skill level, take breaks when you need them and develop a personal practice. Modifications and intensifications will be offered. Class will be mildly vigorous, but you always control your own intensity.

Vinyasa

This class is recommended for students who have a regular practice and are considered intermediate level. In this class students will learn the four parts of obtaining proper breath control while becoming fully aware of every movement into an asana (posture). Vinyasa is a form of yoga that links breath, movement, and asanas together. It is sometimes referred to as Yoga Flow or Flow Yoga because it emphasizes the movements between poses. Vinyasa is often fast moving so by slowing the pace, students have time to learn the poses, how to move, breathe, and stretch between poses. This is an energetic class, where the flow is creative, we have fun and listen to upbeat music.

Power Yoga

Power Yoga is a fast-paced vinyasa style of yoga, with a fitness approach. This class is for the moderately practiced students and bold beginners. In this class students will focus on building strength and endurance while moving through a variety of poses. This is an energetic class for all levels, where the flow is creative, we have fun and listen to upbeat music.

Heated Hatha Yoga

There are different styles of hot yoga. The style offered at our studio is a version of Hatha Yoga (Sanskrit: “Discipline of Force”). Hatha Yoga focuses on basic asanas (postures) and breathing techniques. In our heated yoga class, we combine yoga asanas in a heated room (between 85-95 degrees) to encourage sweat, improve cardiovascular health, burn calories, reduce stress, increase flexibility, and to overall feel better.
PRECAUTIONS: although practicing hot yoga is safe for most people, it can cause dehydration, higher risk of injury, dizziness, lightheadedness, and trouble breathing. To practice safely, drink plenty of water before/during and after class, ease yourself into classes, and leave the room if the heat becomes too much.

This class is recommended for students who have a regular practice and are considered intermediate level. This means students have a good understanding of the basic yoga postures and understand the relationship between breath and movement.
This class is NOT recommended for anyone who is pregnant, has a heart condition, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, or physical injuries.
